Help & Support
Troubleshooting tips and answers to common questions
Passkey Issues
Passkey registration fails
If you see “This browser doesn’t support passkey registration on this device”:
- Try using Google Chrome instead of your device’s default browser
- Register from a different device that supports passkeys
- Make sure your device has a screen lock (PIN, fingerprint, or face unlock) set up
Passkey login fails
Passkey login requires a supported browser and a registered passkey. If you haven’t registered one yet, sign in with email and password, then go to Settings to set one up.
Browser not supported
Passkeys require a modern browser. If you see “Passkeys are not supported on this browser”, update your browser or switch to Chrome, Safari, or Edge.
In-app browser not supported
Passkeys don’t work in in-app browsers like the Google App, Facebook’s built-in browser, Instagram, or other embedded browsers. Open this website directly in Chrome, Safari, or Edge to use passkeys.
Login Problems
Can’t sign in with email and password
Double-check your email and password. Passwords are case-sensitive. If you’ve forgotten your password, reach out to a moderator in the chat and ask for a reset — they can help you back in.
Two-factor authentication (2FA)
If you’re prompted for a 2FA code but don’t have access to your authenticator app, use one of your backup codes. Each backup code can be used only once. If you’ve lost every backup code, ask a moderator in the chat for help signing back in.
Rate limited
Too many login attempts will temporarily lock you out. Wait for the cooldown timer to expire before trying again. This protects your account from brute-force attacks.
Login Sessions & Devices
Where can I see what’s signed into my account?
Open Settings → Security. You’ll see a list of your active sessions showing the device, browser or operating system, IP address, approximate location, and the last time each was active.
How do I sign a device out remotely?
In Settings → Security, use Sign out on any session you don’t recognize. That device is disconnected immediately and can no longer access your account until it signs in again.
Why did I get a “new sign-in” alert?
We alert you when your account signs in from a device or approximate location it hasn’t been used from before. If it wasn’t you: sign that session out immediately, change your password, and review your other sessions.
What happens to old sessions?
We keep only your most recent fifty session records; older ones are removed automatically as new activity is added.
Account & Settings
Change password
Go to Settings and use the Change Password option. You’ll need your current password to set a new one.
Set up two-factor authentication
In Settings, find the Two-Factor Authentication section and follow the setup wizard. You’ll need an authenticator app like Google Authenticator or Authy.
Delete account
Account deletion is available in Settings. This action is permanent and cannot be undone.
Change profile info
Your username, bio, and avatar can be updated from your Profile page.
Notifications & Push
How do I turn push notifications on or off?
Go to Settings → Notifications and use the Notification toggle. Enabling asks your browser for permission and registers this device. Disabling unsubscribes this device and removes its stored subscription, so no further notifications arrive.
Not getting notifications?
- Check your browser’s site permission: click the lock icon in the address bar and make sure Notifications are Allowed, not blocked or set to quiet.
- Check your operating system’s settings — on Windows, allow notifications for your browser in Settings → System → Notifications, and turn off Focus assist (Do not disturb) while testing.
- The browser needs to be running. On desktop, Chrome and Edge can still deliver push notifications with the site closed, but fully quitting the browser stops delivery. On mobile, the operating system also needs notifications allowed for the browser.
- Push cannot be delivered to a browser over a plain
http://connection (other than on localhost) — open the site overhttps://.
When do I receive a push?
Push notifications are sent only when you’re away from the app and something needs your attention — for example new followers, direct messages, account security alerts, and announcements. While the app is open these arrive as in-app notifications instead, so you aren’t alerted twice.
What’s stored on the server?
Only a subscription for each device you’ve enabled — a delivery endpoint and two encryption keys. No messages are stored as part of it. See our Privacy Policy for details.
Avatars & Profile Pictures
Set or change my avatar
Go to Settings → Profile Picture. Upload an image, crop it to your liking, and it will be shown next to your username across the app.
Supported image formats
You can upload JPG, PNG, and HEIC images up to 5 MB. HEIC photos (from iPhones) are converted automatically so you can use them directly. Direct GIF file uploads aren’t supported — for an animated GIF avatar, use the GIF button next to Upload Image to pick one from the GIF picker (it keeps its animation).
My upload was rejected
Profile pictures are automatically screened to keep the community safe. If your image was rejected, it means it didn’t meet our content guidelines (for example, it was flagged as inappropriate or explicit). Try a different, appropriate image. GIFs chosen from the GIF picker are already screened by the picker provider, so they don’t go through the upload screening. See our Privacy Policy for details on how images are handled.
Remove or reset my avatar
You can remove your avatar at any time from Settings. Your messages will continue to show a default placeholder.
Why was metadata stripped from my photo?
For your privacy, we automatically remove hidden metadata (such as GPS location and camera info) from uploaded profile pictures so it isn’t exposed to other users.
Following & Followers
How do I follow or unfollow someone?
Open a user’s profile and use the Follow or Unfollow button. Following is one-way and doesn’t require the other person’s approval. You can unfollow at any time.
How do I see my followers and who I follow?
Visit your Profile and tap your follower or following counts to open the full list. You can browse other users’ lists the same way.
Will someone know when I follow them?
Yes. When you follow someone, they receive a notification that you started following them. Unfollowing is private and does not send a notification.
Why does the green online dot only show for some people?
Your online status (green dot) is only visible to users you mutually follow — people you follow who also follow you back. If someone doesn’t follow you back, they can’t see when you’re online, and the same applies the other way. Global online counts in the chat remain public for everyone. To make your presence fully private, enable Hide active status in Settings → Privacy — this removes your status for everyone and also hides everyone else’s online status (including the public online count) from you until you turn it off.
Blocking Users
How do I block someone?
Open the user’s profile and use the Block option. You can review all your blocked users and unblock them from Settings → Privacy.
What happens when I block someone?
- The blocked user can no longer follow you or send you messages.
- Existing mutual follows are removed in both directions.
- You stop seeing that user’s messages and online status.
- If the blocked user tries to visit your profile, it appears as not found.
Will the person know they’ve been blocked?
No. Blocking is private — the other user is not notified.
How do I unblock someone?
Go to Settings → Privacy, find the user in your blocked list, and tap Unblock. This restores their ability to follow and message you.
Messages & Chat
Messages not sending
Check your internet connection. If the issue persists, try refreshing the page. Rate limits may also apply to messaging.
Can’t like messages
You need to be signed in to like messages. If you’re signed in and it’s still not working, try refreshing or reconnecting.
Why can’t I see a user’s messages anymore?
If you’ve blocked a user, their messages are hidden from your chat view. Unblock them from Settings → Privacy to see them again.
Typing indicator not showing
The typing indicator requires an active socket connection. This usually resolves itself within a few seconds. If it persists, try reloading the page.
How do I send a GIF?
Click the GIF button next to the message input to open the GIF picker. Browse the trending reactions or search by keyword, then tap any GIF to send it. You can click any GIF already in the chat to view it in full size.
Are my messages moderated?
Yes. Every message you send is screened automatically for toxic content (profanity, hate speech, insults, threats, and graphic language). Screening happens instantly before your message is delivered — if a message is flagged, it is blocked and not sent. This helps keep the chat safe for everyone.
My message was rejected
A rejected message means it was flagged by automated moderation. Rephrase your message and try again. Repeatedly attempting to send prohibited content may result in restrictions.
GIF search not working or asking me to slow down
GIF searches are rate-limited to keep the service stable and fair for everyone. If you see a message asking you to slow down, wait a few seconds and try again.
Reporting & Moderation
Report a message
Click the report button on any message to flag it for moderator review. Provide a reason so moderators can take appropriate action.
Report a user
Visit the user’s profile and use the report option. All reports are reviewed by the moderation team.
Contact staff
If you need immediate assistance, reach out to a moderator in the chat — they are the fastest way to get help. You can also use the report system to flag a message or a user. Do not share personal information publicly.
Banned or Rate Limited
I’ve been banned
Bans are issued by moderators for violating the terms of service. If you believe the ban was a mistake, use the report system to appeal. Bans are temporary and will expire automatically.
Rate limited
Rate limits protect the server from abuse. If you see a rate limit warning, wait the indicated time before making another request. Repeatedly triggering rate limits may result in a ban.
